Frog Racing Tips

If you need extra coins or looking for a specific breed of frog, the pocket frogs race can help! Although a spectator sport, you are responsible for the frog you choose to race. If you look carefully you will see "speed" and "stamina" with the stats listed. You want to pick your frog with the highest of both numbers to race. Other frogs are are randomly choosen to race with your frog are usually in the same "level family". So, pay attention to the racing stats of your frog before sending it out to the track! Oh, and if you frog can manage to eat a fly or two along the way, it will boost his stamina...of course this is out of your control, just sayin'.



If you get first place, you can choose to either take a prize of coins, or to have one of the competing frogs mailed to you. There are often glass frogs or chroma frogs in the races, so this is a great way to get those rare types of frogs! If you win 2nd or 3rd place, you will win some coins. If you get 4th or 5th place, you don't get a prize.

Red Dot Diva observes that one of the key ingredients of a successful electronic game is its addictive factor. People generally don't keep buying drugs because of their good non-toxic values, do they? ;)

When "Pocket Frogs" was featured as a Free app to download on her iTunes one day, Red Dot Diva decided to give it a try. She quickly found Nimblebit's free "Pocket Frogs" game to be super-addictive. The game is straightforward but sometimes, simplicity does have its good points.

On a basic level, "Pocket Frogs" is about breeding and growing a bunch of oh-sooooo-cute froggies in different habitats that one may own.

A player can take the frogs to the Pond and tame them, or keep them "happy" by eating lots of buzzing dragonflies. While hopping from lily pad to lily pad, the frogs can also find gifts, which may consist of extra frog-money, other frog breeds, stamps or potions. (More on those later!)

While doing the lily-pad-pond-dance, the frog could also breed with other "wild" frogs by unceremoniously plopping on top of a chosen mate. Apparently those webbed creatures don't even flirt or bat a nictitating membrane... The hoppity sluts! ;)

These colourful froggies have three basic traits - their primary base colour, a secondary pattern colour, and the type of pattern itself. One could breed and check the possible outcomes from the frogs that are already placed in the habitats. The outcomes are based on genetics and a roll of the dice (unless both parent-frogs are of the exact same pattern, then you'll get the same pattern-offspring).

Although... Red Dot Diva muses - does it mean that the happier the parent-frog, the higher the chance the offspring will take the appearance of that parent?

Using the Frogedex Tips

I use the Frogedex when breeding new frogs. When you breed your frogs, the Frogedex indexes the frog immediately. So, if you are trying to breed a particular frog that you haven't had before, you can go to the index and see if you have breed it. If not, I sell the unknown egg and try again. No more waiting or using potions to see if  you have the desired frog. Keep hopping!

 

Awesome Update with Pocket Frog Racing Coming Soon 1.0.6

If you're one of the 2,374,436 (as of this writing) people who have downloaded NimbleBit's Pocket Frogs [Free], you're going to be in for a treat when Apple approves the latest update that was submitted this afternoon. When the update lands, gameplay will be expanded beyond just hopping around in your habitats and frog ponds to actually racing your frogs. Frogs will have speed and stamina stats that will affect race performance, and winning a race results in a coin prize or a free frog. Happiness also comes in to play, and if you're lucky, your frog will even come across some dragonflies to munch on during the race which will provide a small boost. NimbleBit likens this new frog racing functionality to betting on horse races, as the outcome of the race entirely depends on your frog's statistics as well as the potential of a little luck from dragonflies. You can't just endlessly enter your frogs in races either, each race has an entrance fee which you have to risk. Lose the race and you're out your entrance fee, win the race, and you'll be drowning in coins (or frogs).


In addition to racing, some other tweaks have been made to Pocket Frogs. Currently, when you're breeding high-end frogs and want to use growth potions to speed them up you're forced to use a certain number to complete the process. In the update, you'll be able to spend individual potions to speed the bar along in small increments instead of it being an all or nothing affair. Also, if you breed a frog that you want to share with friends, you'll be able to tweet an image or post it on Facebook.
Pocket Frogs 1.0.6 will be available as soon as Apple approves it, which could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks from now. In the meantime, happy breeding.

Limited Time Frogs

Some frogs will only appear for a limited time, then the only way to get them is by exchanging them.

The first frog to be limited was the Tribus, it was a limited edition pattern found only in presents during the first week of the game's release on 15 September 2010 and cannot be found in the pond or FrogMart.

At any time you can take any of your frogs back to the pond, which will allow them to fill up on dragonflies to increase their happiness. In addition, you will randomly stumble across presents which could be an additional frog, new backgrounds or objects for your habitat, coins, or the various in-game consumables. Also, there are other frogs bouncing about the pond which you will run in to, and when you jump to the same lilly pad you have the option to breed with said frog.
Initially, breeding frogs seems fairly simple but as you progress further in to the game it actually gets quite complex. Basically, frogs have three traits: Their base color, their pattern color, and the pattern itself. When you breed two frogs you’re shown the possible outcome, which could be up to 8 different combinations of colors and patterns. You can either breed frogs just for the fun of creating new frogs with cool colors and patterns, or you can shoot for the various goals in the game.
Pocket Frogs is host to tons of different awards (each coming with their own experience point bonus) which involve breeding to collect a certain number of specific frogs of various colors. You can either complete these challenges entirely on your own by breeding your existing frogs and collecting new ones either by buying them with coins at the in-game store, finding them in the pond, or breeding with other frogs in the pond. Alternatively, if you have other friends playing the game, they can send you the frogs you’re missing (or the ones you need to breed with) via an in-game mail system. In addition to awards, there are also frog requests that you can take which act like an in-game quest system that require a specific breed of frog. These are completed the same way.
